Course Description:

Care and treatment of AIDS and HIV has changed dramatically with increased hope for a longer and more productive life. This NYSNA contact hour approved workshop will provide information about the newest medication protocols and the latest research in monitoring, compliance and care.

Objectives:

* Recognize the use of methadone as a valuable clinical tool
*Acquire understanding of addiction
*Recognize need for long term care treatment with methadone
*Recognize medical complications
*Differentiate medical illness from complications of substance abuse.
*List pharmacological agents used in AIDS / HIV patients
*List mechanism of action of pharm agents for AIDS patients
*describe how methadone treatment is used with AIDS patients
